A Calling to Care: Senior Helpers

For many South County families, the journey of caring for an aging parent is a delicate balance of love, logistics, emotion, and uncertainty. It’s a chapter of life that arrives quietly, then suddenly—with questions that don’t come with a guidebook.

For Senior Helpers owner Keyur Shah, this experience was not only personal, but transformational, shaping a new professional purpose and a mission to elevate in-home senior care in our community.

Senior Helpers itself is a name widely recognized beyond Orange County – in operation for more than 20 years operating 400+ offices worldwide. The award-winning caregiving agency specializes in helping seniors live safely and independently at home—whether they need just a few hours of occasional support or round-the-clock care.

Keyur’s path to Senior Helpers didn’t follow the traditional trajectory of someone entering the senior care industry. With two decades of corporate management experience at Disney, Microsoft, and Live Nation, he found himself longing for something with deeper impact. That desire coincided with one of the most difficult moments in his own family’s life.

“My mom was diagnosed with esophagus cancer, and I was suddenly exposed to the world of senior care,” says Keyur. Navigating his parents’ care became both an act of love and an eye-opening introduction to an industry filled with complexities. “I realized quickly how overwhelming, confusing, and stressful it can be to navigate this. If I could help make this process even a little bit easier for someone, it would make a big difference.”

It is a personal calling—one he carries into every client relationship. “I have first-hand experience of what it’s like to have aging parents at home who sometimes need a little, and sometimes a lot, of extra support. I bring that experience and emotion into my work every day.”

That blend of empathy and expertise is reflected in the very structure of Senior Helpers’ services. For one, they stand out for having no minimum hour requirement, an uncommon policy in the caregiving industry. Flexible care plans evolve as a client’s needs change—something families appreciate when situations can shift rapidly.

Keyur also highlights their signature dementia training program Senior Gems®. The program equips caregivers with the tools to understand cognitive decline and respond appropriately at each stage.

But perhaps one of the most unique offerings is a cutting-edge professional health monitoring tool called LIFE Profile that allows Keyur and his team to quantifiably track their clients’ progress over time and identify risks for hospitalization to stay ahead of the curve with declining health issues and address them proactively.

“For those looking for information on how best to support your aging parents, give us a call and let us help you,” he says. “You will never regret being a day early, but you will always regret being a day late.”
Senior Helpers begins with an introductory phone conversation, followed by an in-home health and safety assessment and a tailored care plan. The team emphasizes a formal caregiver matching process—pairing clients with caregivers based not just on expertise, but compatibility.

At the heart of it all is a guiding belief that caring for those who once cared for us is one of life’s greatest honors. “We strongly believe in the notion of good karma,” Keyur says. And for South County families who open their doors and hearts to Senior Helpers, that spirit of service is unmistakable.
