Escape to Waterfront Luxury at Sheraton San Diego Resort

Now that spring is in full swing with our son’s high school graduation around the corner, our family’s vacation schedule is now wholly centered around stay-cations: travel to destinations close to home to squeeze in memory-making weekends away.

With its nearly perfect year-round weather, San Diego is the perfect place for a family escape any time of year. But as spring gives way to summer, the seaside city is just ramping up for the most gorgeous time of the year. Sunny days. Moderate ocean temperatures. Highs in the low 70’s – the ideal clime for recreation and relaxation for all abilities and ages: indoor or outdoor.

Upon the completion of a stunning multi-million-dollar renovation, the reimagined Sheraton San Diego Resort merges modern design with classic elegance to provide an inspiring space where guests can work, meet and relax in style. With its stunning waterfront location, the iconic property located on Harbor Island (a strip of land between the airport and North San Diego Bay) – ideally situated near long stretches of white sand beaches, the harbor, museums, the world-famous zoo and to our daughter’s delight … abundant options for retail therapy between scores of quaint downtown boutiques and nearby sprawling destination shopping centers.

The renovation, which touched every part of this Marriott Bonvoy property, from the redesign of its guestrooms to the addition of three distinctive dining concepts (more on that in a moment) and a trio of resort-style pools.

Accommodations of Distinction

Our family’s “home base” adjoining rooms, part of the recent renovation, were inspired by the natural colors of the marina and coast, blending understated nautical elements with intricate textures and local artwork, embodying the essence of the property – The Heart of the Harbor.

As a family of fledgling foodies, we were particularly thrilled to sample each of the four different onsite dining concepts including Rumorosa, “where San Diego’s vibrant culinary scene meets the authentic flavors of Baja.” The inventive “Cali-Baja” inspired dishes are seafood-centric (think poke, a trio of ceviche and tuna tostada). My son and I lean into seafood specialties so we had our work cut out for us in deciding between the Crispy Skin Salmon with buttered jasmine rice, Vera Cruz Pacific Sea Bass (enhanced with cilantro rice, capers, tomatoes, Spanish olives and citrus butter) and chamomile-dusted seared Diver Scallops. More of a land lover? Rumorosa serves up a tender braised beef short rib and a grilled-to-your-liking 14-oz boneless ribeye with loaded fingerling potatoes.

Sunglow Cabana Bar showcases seasonal poolside dining and signature frozen drinks for all-ages, SoCal-inspired shareables and a family-friendly cabana experience. Fancy craveable chef-driven cuisine and laid-back vibes paired with expertly crafted approachable beverages? Brewery X is the go-to spot, while Strada Italian Market offers Italian bites, gelato, specialty coffees, cold brew on tap, pastries, and grab and go options available daily.
