When Home Becomes a Community

There are some places where you immediately feel the difference. At Heritage Pointe in Mission Viejo, it’s the warmth that greets you at the door, the familiar faces in the hallway and the sense that residents aren’t simply being cared for – they’re genuinely known.
For more than three decades, Heritage Pointe has been part of the Orange County community. Founded in 1992 by Meryl Schrimmer and Loretta Modelevsky in response to the need for a Jewish senior living community, Heritage Pointe has grown into a welcoming Assisted Living and Memory Care community for people of all backgrounds.
“Our goal has always been to meet residents where they are, preserve their independence whenever possible and provide the right level of support while keeping them connected to the community and relationships they’ve built here,” says Executive Director Georgianna Mendez.
A CONTINUUM THAT FEELS LIKE HOME
That philosophy is reflected in Heritage Pointe’s approach to care. Residents can continue calling the community home as their needs evolve, with Assisted Living, Memory Care and Sage Living – an enhanced level of support for those who need more assistance than traditional Assisted Living but may not yet require Memory Care.
But care is only part of the story.
What truly distinguishes Heritage Pointe is its emphasis on belonging. Founded on Jewish values and traditions, the community warmly welcomes residents of all faiths and backgrounds, creating an environment where traditions are celebrated, relationships matter and everyone has a place at the table.
“We believe senior living should be about much more than providing assistance,” Mendez says. “It should be about creating meaningful relationships, maintaining purpose, celebrating traditions and making sure every resident feels known and valued.”
That philosophy extends to everyday life, from engaging activities and social gatherings to dining. Executive Chef Johnny has brought a fresh perspective to the kitchen, creating contemporary dishes with thoughtful presentation and turning mealtimes into another opportunity for residents to connect and enjoy themselves.
MAKING THE MOVE EASIER
For many families, the hardest part of considering senior living isn’t deciding that a change may be needed – it’s figuring out how to make the move happen.
This October and November, Heritage Pointe is helping remove one of those hurdles by offering up to $1,000 toward professional moving expenses for new residents moving into the community.
“It is one small way we can remove some of the logistical and financial stress from the process,” Mendez says.
Because ultimately, the goal isn’t simply to unpack boxes and settle into a new apartment. It’s to discover new friendships, new interests and a renewed sense of connection.
At Heritage Pointe, the next chapter isn’t about leaving home behind. It’s about finding a new place to call home.
